Himalayan Typhonium is plant with very variable
leaves, as its species name diversifolium implies. They are
either entire, heart-shaped, arrow-shaped, ovate-lanceshaped, or with 5-7
lanceshaped to linear lobes. Spathe is green outside, variously
striped, spotted or netted with dark reddish-purple inside, variable in
size, 5-20 cm, with a short green tube and a lanceshaped finely pointed
blade. Spadix ends in a blunt cylindrical dark purple appendage, up to
8 cm long, which protrudes from, or is enclosed in the longer spathe.
Leaves are usually solitary, appearing with the flowers, 8-15 cm long
and broad. Corm is up to 2 cm in diameter. Himalayan Typhonium is found
in the Himalayas, from Himachal Pradesh to SE Tibet, at altitudes of
2500-4300 m. It is also found in Western Ghats. Flowering: June-July.
